About the performance
The main character of the show is Poland, we tell about it. We will tell a story about what was, what is and what could happen around the prevalent and glorified thought of giving life to Poland. We are a nation that celebrates the idea of a romantic spurt, glorious death, self-denial and sacrifice in a unique way. We have just taken these poetic reflections to the workshop and discuss them with them in the context of contemporary realities. And it is probably because of this is a tragicomic spectacle.
The title „Za-Polska” refers more to the idea of the work of Maria Janowska than to her biography or specific work of the author. It must be remembered that „Gabriela Zapolska” is just an artistic pseudonym, behind which not only the author of satirical comedies, dramas and novels was hiding, but above all a reasonable observer of social life. Our title, on the one hand, excels at her observations and diagnoses (including the famous Dulszczyzna), on the other – the ideas that drive our patriotism, our complexes, myths and suicidal ups and downs.
The mirror put before the nation a hundred years ago by Zapolska we put again, curious about the new reflection and what is behind our backs.
